Ruthenium in Jewellery

Posted on: 02/05/2013

A member of the platinum group of metals, this metal is not only rare it has some great properties for jewellery. Ruthenium is strong, extremely hard wearing and scratch resistant so it’s ideal for providing some striking finishes to silver jewellery.

Plating silver with rhodium, another member of the platinum family, has always been popular with manufacturers and customers as it provides a high white, shiny finish to the piece. Ruthenium however means customers can now have a deep bullet grey finish from another precious metal. A coating which is strong and uses a rare metal means it’s now becoming a popular choice with customers.

The deep grey, nearly black colour, makes it the perfect metal for showcasing sparkling cubic zirconia stones and we’re sure it will prove a hit with male customers too. We envisage that the popularity of ruthenium will rise over the coming years as more and more people become aware of it’s exceptional qualities.
