Did you know that since 2000 Pantone picks a colour each year to be their ‘Colour of the Year’? They choose a shade which they predict will be a key choice for designers and other creative professionals in the coming months. This year they chose the lovely Radiant Orchid, shown below.
They describe this colour as one which ‘blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. …Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health.’ To learn a little bit more about why they chose this lovely feminine shade take a look here.
We’ve noticed a definite celebrity trend for the shade, with people as diverse as Lea Michele, Vanessa Hudgens and Michelle Obama all rocking this lovely hue.
Radiant Orchid Watches
We’ve also noticed a lot of watches in this shade and we’ve picked out a few of our favourites below. The Radley design (no.1) is a lovely feminine watch that can be dressed up or down for almost any occasion, making it a great way to add a touch of the year’s colour trend to an outfit. Alternately, the Sekonda watch (no.3) is perfect for partying as it is light, comfortable and seriously sparkly! The Diesel and Ice-watch styles (no.2 and 4) are great if you fancy a slightly more practical look that still adds a bright flash of purple, while the Kahuna watch (no.5) is our favourite budget pick. At just £22, with a fantastic saving off the RRP and a fun, flowery dial, this Kahuna style makes for a great summer watch!
Radiant Orchid Jewellery
Finally, the gems and jewellery! Amethyst was obviously a popular choice for this colour trend, although as it’s a natural stone it does have a lot of colour variation so we’re not sure Pantone would always agree on the exact shade! Our Diamore Primo range is a great way of adding designs with this sparkling gem to your collection for less, as it offers fabulous jewellery with real stones set in silver to keep the price low and affordable. The heart earrings (no.3) shown below are a lovely example of this range. We also saw the trend in fashion pieces, such as the lovely rose gold plated silver bangle below (no.2), which combines two of the season’s key colours in one gorgeous design. The two pendants show how the look can be updated for a modern touch (no.1) or kept to a more classic style (no.5) depending on the occasion. The sparkling silver and amethyst bracelet (no.4) is just a lovely design that can be worn almost anywhere and still look great!
Gemstone Colour of the Year?
However, while there were lots of jewellery designs working with this lovely shade, there was also some controversy on whether Radiant Orchid really was the gemstone Colour of The Year. Instead, InStyle argued that tanzanite should be the Gem of the Year instead.
This lovely gemstone also has purple tones but combines them with a lovely pale blue colour for a beautiful final finish. Our new tanzanite designs have been proving really popular and we’ve picked a few of our favourites below to compare with the Radiant Orchid designs above so you can decide which you prefer!
