Russell Brand blamed his recent outburst of fury at a photographer on the late Steve Jobs after the comedian grabbed a phone from a pap and threw it away.

The star took to social networking site Twitter to voice his frustration at the incident, which saw him dish out $5,000 for bail after he handed himself into police in New Orleans.

He said: “Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory.”

After Brand lobbed the smartphone into the air, it reportedly smashed a window, leading to a simple criminal damages charge.

During the incident, which occurred earlier this week, the British funny man looked his typical metrosexual self, sporting tight navy jeans, a long grey vest top and what appeared to be a designer watch.

He hid his eyes under oversized shades and was probably only identifiable by his characteristic hair and beard, which was just visible under a grey hat.
